Dear Lowlanders,

I wonder if any of you can help regarding the Low Saxon and other names for
the bird known in English as “(common) swift” (*Apus apus*). My educated
guess is that in Low Saxon of Germany it is **Muurseiler* (“wall glider”), *
*Toornseiler* (“tower glider”) or **Toornswulk* (“tower swallow”).

German: Mauersegler (“wall glider”), Turmschwalbe (“tower swallow”)
Dutch: gierzwaluw (“vulture swallow”)
Frisian, Western: toerswel (“tower swallow”)
Danish: mursejler (“wall glider”)
Norwegian, Bokmål: tårnsejler (“tower glider”)
Swedish: tornseglare (“tower glider”), tornsvala (“tower swallow”)
Icelandic: múrsvölungur (“wall glider”), turnsvala (“tower swallow”)
Welsh: gwennol ddu (“black martin”)
Estonian: piirpääsuke (“boundary swallow”)
Finnish: tervapääsky (“tar swallow”)
Hungarian: sarlósfecske (“visitor swallow”)

Thanks and regards,
Reinhard/Ron
