Just a little clarification for you, since you mentioned not being entirely
certain what ‘lowland languages’ means.  Short and sweet – it means the
Germanic languages that are not Scandinavian, not East Germanic (ie. Gothic,
Burgundian, and such), and not ‘High’ German dialects.  So, English in its
many varieties, your newly-found love Frisian, in all its varieties, Dutch,
Flemish, Afrikaans, Low Saxon (on the list, it’s referred as Low Saxon,
rather than as Low German, to emphasize that it is indeed a language
separate from German, and also to distinguish it from the High German
dialect spoken in Saxony, which could also be called Saxon), and all their
varieties, plus others that differ enough to be thought of not as dialects
of the above mentioned, but as languages in their own right, which the other
members will gladly, I’m sure, acquaint you with.
