If I recall correctly from my reading of Caesar’s *Conquest of Gaul*, the
Belgae were one of the tribes that inhabited the area that would later bear
their name; however, there seems to have been some confusion as to whether
they were Germanic or Celtic.  Being in close proximity to Germanic tribes,
perhaps there was some exchange of culture between the two that prompted
such confusion?
