Roger I sympathise. Some years ago my wife and I did a self guided tour of
The Maritimes with stops in Montreal and wondrous Quebec en-route. I though
everything was included but when I followed instructions to take the ferry
over the St Lawrence to Levi to get the overnight sleeper to Halifax the
fun began. In Quebec I had no trouble with proper French in bars, stores
etc but when I got to the ferry terminal two smiling men looked at my
schedule and began speaking in an alien tongue. I tried French and they
just sadly shook their heads and repeated their message in this weird
tongue, finally I worked out we had to pay the small ferry fee. My first
and hopefully last encounter with Quebecois.Mind you this is probably on a
par with most of you Good Folks trying to speak in a Glasgow pub.
