*ROOT OF ROOTS: HOW CHILDREN LEARN ABOUT HEBREW WORDS AND THEIR ROOTS*

*Prof. dr. **Dorit Ravid
*Tel Aviv University
One of the most important components of any language is the mental lexicon,
that is, the mental repository of words that a person speaking and writing
that language knows. Words are the source of everything in language: In
learning words, babies and toddlers learn the sound patterns of their
particular language, the meanings that are conveyed by words and their
combinations, and the grammar that organizes them. As a Semitic language,
the Hebrew mental lexicon revolves around the root, a sequence of (usually)
three sounds or letters that creates a morphological family. This lecture
will report new studies exploring how Hebrew-speaking toddlers and children
learn about roots from the spoken and written language they are exposed to.
Lezing in het Engels.

De lezing is gratis toegankelijk.
Inschrijven is niet noodzakelijk.
*U bent ook van harte welkom op de gastvoordracht ‘Revolutie en Systeem:
