You beat me to it, Kirsteen, he approved my membership last week, too!

 

Having said that, I was quite enjoying Ingmar’s conversation about Duiven –
my parents-in-law live there and I stay in the town on my occasional trips
to Holland. Also, Ingmar, your page, which of course I had a look at after
reading you wanted to remove it :), is quite fascinating. All those
dialects, in such a small geographical space! In Australia you need to
travel 500 kms at least to pick up a slight variation in Australian English!


 

I was born in Hattem and my parents always spoke Hattems to each other here
in Australia. Many years ago I visited my Oma in a bejaardentehuis in
Hattem. An old lady with dementia was muttering next to us and Oma said to
me (in Hattems :)) “Oh you won’t understand her, she speaks a different
language because she comes from Wapenveld!”. About 6 kms away on the map
..!
