<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Hello everybody,</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I'd like to say several words concerning that (English) language
use<BR>discussion.<BR>I think there should not be much concern about the
subject. Everyone is<BR>completely free to use the language he likes. (By the
way I wrote 'he'<BR>and<BR>realized surprisingly that I maybe disregard women by
that.) In order<BR>not to<BR>insult anybody the forum would inevitably come to
use some artificial<BR>language, for example Interlingua and only that one.
(However our<BR>Romanic<BR>members would score in this case a greate advantage.)
In order not to<BR>neglect any language to kill all languages except one - the
most stupid<BR>thing one can imagine.<BR>I'd like to write in Russian not to
show off or to express myself freely<BR>but<BR>because this may be interesting
for those of Lowlanders who are<BR>interested<BR>in Russian language, just like
I am interested in Dutch, Frisian,<BR>Afrikaans<BR>and Low Saxon and always read
your postings in these languages with<BR>great<BR>pleasure. But how about
Cyrillic letters? Should everyone move to<BR>Unicode?<BR>I think that Ron's
practice to put an English translation after the main<BR>message is a good
example.</DIV>

<DIV>Mike,</DIV>

<DIV>> But how about Cyrillic letters? Should everyone move to Unicode?</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>I think this is in the offing, is already possible and it would
really<BR>be advantageous. Our archive hosted by LINGUIST<BR>(<A
href="http://listserv.linguistlist.org/archives/lowlands-l.html">http://listserv.linguistlist.org/archives/lowlands-l.html</A>)
already<BR>converts everything to Unicode.</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>All one has to do is switch one's programs encoding mode to
Unicode<BR>after installing one or more Unicode fonts. One such font is
Arial<BR>Unicode, and another one is Lucida Sans Unicode. These
are<BR>proportionally spaced fonts. Does anyone know of a generally
(gratis)<BR>available fixed-width Unicode font?</DIV>
<DIV> </DIV>
<DIV>Unfortunately, Microsoft has removed Arial Unicode from their
free<BR>download webpage. (However, go to <A
href="http://www.magic-live.com/fonts/">http://www.magic-live.com/fonts/</A>
and<BR>find ARIALUNI.TTF and LSANSUNI.TTF.)</DIV>
