certainly rings a bell. In my American ex-husband's family, all the (generally
very sarcastic) males will talk like that when quoting a man they don't
particularly like, or who they think has done something stupid. They will lower
their voices considerably, and then go on speaking in their own, regular voices.
I've heard it from other people, too, but I don't recall ever hearing this kind
of shift in Germany or elsewhere.</span></font></div>
