</a></span><br><span>English: <a href="http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/liek-en.php">http://lowlands-l.net/gallery/liek-en.php</a></span><br><span></span></div><span style="font-family: arial,sans-serif;"><br>The exhibited works are all pieces of essay-type short prose in Zeelandic, mostly autobiographical in nature. I find the texts very easy (as well as enjoyable) to read and trust that most of you have similar experiences with them.
<br><br>Among other things, Jaap writes about his experiences in World War II. He wasn't sure if this was appropriate, considering present company. I told him it was. While we don't dwell on it, we do not pretend that negative things did not occur between us, and we are all grown-ups and know that war memories and conflicting feelings between neighbors tend to loom large in the lives of those whose beginnings go back far enough.
<br><br>The linguistically inclined among you and those of you that want to familiarize themselves with non-standard Lowlands language varieties now have at their disposal a nice sampling of Zeelandic. And this is over and above the opportunity to get to know our Jaap a bit better.
