Apparently the latest thinking is that Hengist and Horsa (the Saxon
chieftains who first settled in what is now England) are really the
same person, as both names are variants of the word for "horse". The
scribe in the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle was just giving different variants
of the same person's name, but this was later misunderstood. Or was he
really talking about a horse?</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
