Yesterday I went to Drenthe, to a reunion of my primary school in the town</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
where I grew up. Most of my old class mates I hadn't seen for over 25</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
years, that was real fun! But I was happily surprised as well to find out</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
that the common language still turned out to be Low Saxon: almost everyone</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
spoke Drenthe dialect instead of Dutch. Even the teacher and a local</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
journalist who kind of lead the gathering later on, who were both</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
originally from Friesland and raised in Frisian, spoke Low Saxon. The</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
journalist did even ask in the beginning: shall I speak Dutch or just</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
Drentish, I assume the last, as usual. So there is still hope for our</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
language, because we were all below 40 yrs old (except for the teacher of</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
course and that journalist). I hadn't really expected that.</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">
