Same (but worse) happens when Lowlanders start learning Chinese
sibilants. Whatever is written as "x", "j", "q" and "zh" in Pinyin,
gets pronounced more or less the same. Mind you, not only by Lowlanders
I guess <span> :-D </span>.
Typically as well, many Chinese and Japanese mix up "r" and "l", but I
think this is mainly due to English itself where a rolling r has almost
vanished (otherwise, the phonetic distance between r and l would be
much more obvious for foreigners).</span><br style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;">

I had lunch with my fellow teachers earlier this year, in the "Horloge
du Sud", roughly 200 m from "Beverly Hills" (corner of Waverse Steenweg
