come across the website of "Urk" <a href="http://www.urk.nl/" target="_blank">http://www.urk.nl/</a> in the province
of Flevoland in the Netherlands. An interesting
village!</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Courier New";">It had been an island
in ancient time and kept its individual character until our days.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Courier New";">Is there anyone
among you coming from there? I'd like to know some more facts about it. In
a certain way it reminds me at the Saterland (Scharrel), where people still
speak the very special dialect of Seeltersk/Sater-Frisian. Has Urk a special
dialect of its own, too?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Courier New";">Further: the
inhabitants don't know the origin of the name. I have to agree- a very strange
word, this "Urk". But in Eastern Friesland
we know the town "Aurich", which is "Auerk" in EFLS
dialect. They could linguistically be related, don't you think so?</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: "Courier New";">Going
on with the historical background: nearly unbelievable that it did
belong to the arch-bisdom of Cologne!
Starting at the East-Side of the Weser river in nowadays Germany </span> <span style="font-family: "Courier New";">reaching to the Province
of Holland!</span> <span style="font-family: "Courier New";"> And the eastern rest of Germanic settlements
on the European continent belonged to the Arch-Bisdom of Mainz.</span></p>
