I once, quite some time ago, read that Swanson was derived from the Old English
man's name Swan ~ Swon, meaning 'swan'.<br>
<br>
I used to think that it was a cognate of Scandinavian Sven (~ Swen ~ Svend </span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;">< Sveinn</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;">), but this one
meant 'boy' or 'lad', related to English "swain(e)".
Apparently it began as "swine herder".<br>
