I in particular remember a chemistry teacher of mine in high school<br>
who had the last name Swenson, who was ethnically Swedish. I myself<br>
had always assumed that his family's original last name was Svensson,<br>
and which had been merely anglicized to Swenson at some point, likely<br>
when they had gotten off the boat, so to speak.<br>

The spelling Swenson can be found in Sweden as well, though the pronunciation
is the same as that of Svenson and Svensson. It goes back to the time before
the current Swedish orthography was established and "w" was no longer
used in native words and names. (I think this happened in Hungarian as well.)<br>
