ernstig omgekrap, nê, en toe bedink ek my: Ek hou hoegenaamd niks van
Akademiese Afrikaans nie! Dit verbaas my geensins, Jacquie, dat u daarmee
sukkel. Wat my betref kan dit met alle gemak in die duisternis heen. My niggie
Gillian, half-Iers, half Skots met 'n Afrikaner man, is 'n vertaler in die
hoëgeregshof, en in haar eie tyd doen sy vertaal- en redaksiewerk in en
tussen Engels en Afrikaans. 'n Groot deel van haar inskomste 'melk' sy uit
die ontleding van 'Akademiese Afrikaans' in AB Afrikaans, en sy haat dit. Die
hoof-sondaars is na-graadse studente met hulle tesis in die die Administrasie-
of Bestuur-kunde (Ha!). Uit die Letterkunde kom daar nie vir haar werk
nie, maar dis te verwagte. Mynsinsiens is daar wel 'n nypende nood vir
tersiëre-vlak studie in die Letterkunde, en hier moet dit in die betrokke taal
geskied, hetsy Afrikaans of Hongaars, waarookal in die Wêreld dit bestudeer
word, Finland of die Fillipyne.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="NL"> </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="NL">Ja, laat Engels die tegniese en wetenskaplike taal van
die 21ste Eeu wees. Hier is 'n hond van 'n taal, 'n ware brak, en dit sal nie
seer maak nie - en tog: Ek hou van 'n brak. 'n Mens kan Engels net so ergelik
martel. Ek het sulke strond gelees. Nog iets, wat my in my inneste laat warm
voel oor Afrikaas is dat <strong><span style="font-family: Arial;">egte</span></strong>
tegniese taal, <strong><span style="font-family: Arial;">ware</span></strong>
wetenskaplike terminologie, kan mens sonder moeite in enigeiets tussen
motorwektuigkunde en radiosterrekunde, wiskunde en plantekunde sonder moeite
handhaaf. Hulle wat die Taal daartoe gestel het, en hulle werk, God laat dit
tog nie vergete nie!</span></p>
