een Godin met de naam Holda of Holle (Vrouw Holle). Deze naam Holda of Holle
heeft waarschijnlijk een grote rol gespeeld in de naamgeving. Misschien was het
ook bepalend bij een naam als Holland? Misschien ook bepalend bij pleknamen als
</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="NL">Holwerd, Helledoorn, Holwierd en ook <span style="color: black;">Hollen in de
Duitse deelstaat Nedersaksen.</span> Het is ook bekend dat er een verband
bestaat tussen Vrouw Holle en de Holunderbes of Vlierbes. De gemeente
Helledoorn heeft een holunderstruik op het stadswapen.</span></p>

Hollen en Hollinnen waren aardgeesten, maar verder weten wij niets van deze
aardgeesten. Als de Hollen en Hollinnen aardgeesten waren, waren zij dan
