Dear Lowlanders,<br>

One casual word of greeting in Finnish is <i>Moi!</i> (or <i>Moi, moi!</i>), similar
to <i>Hei!</i> and <i>Terve!</i> (cf. Estonian <i>Tere!</i>)<br>
<br>
Is this <i>Moi!</i> by any chance a Low Saxon loan?<br>
<br>
As most of you know by now, Low Saxon <i>Moin!</i> 'Hi!' comes from something
like *<i>Moien Dag!</i> "Pleasant day!" (not from a word for 'morning' as frequently assumed), and in some dialects, such as those of
Drenthe, you simply say <i>Moi!</i><br>
