Hello all <br>
         This listing made me think of
the Afrikaans equivalents of some of the names for an accordian 
Handharmonika is found meaning Accordeon</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;" lang="PT-BR"> in </span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Arial;">an Afrikaans dictionary although I
have not heard this used. More familiar are Akkordeon, Trekklavier (Piano
accordian). Interestingly the word Trekkas which I thought may be carried over
from Treckkasten is used for a Drag-box which is equipment used in civil
engineering. <br>
<br>
There appears to be some confusion in the dictionaries I have consulted about
the larger stringed instruments. Both the violoncello or cello  (usually
Afrikaans: Tjello or Violonsel) and the Double Bass (usually
Afrikaans:Kontrabas) are called a Basviool. Perhaps Lexicographers are better
at making word lists than at being musicologists :). Â  <br>

But the most popular source of innocent merriment of all to those I spoke to
was the Piepstang - In Afrikaans this means a chirruping or squeeking metal
Rod/Bar. I think this may lead to a the word Fluit (flute) being replaced.<br>
