On an Anlgo-Saxon discussion group somebody mentioned the Northern
English/Midlands expression "mi ol' mucker", a term for "my old friend"
or similar.  They mentioned a similar modern Saxon <em> min ole makker</em>, and a German-speaker said there was a modern H. German <em>Macker</em>, which he believes is of Lowlands origin.</div>

from Dutch/Flemish sailors and traders in the Middle Ages to 18thC, or
back as far as Old English?</div>
