Viele alte WIEGENLIEDER, mit denen die Mutter das Kind in den Schlaf sang, wenn
sie die Gängel* der Wiege in Bewegung setzte, verloren mit dem
Verschwinden der Wiege und dem Einwirken modernerer Kommunikationsmittel ihre
Funktion und wurden immer seltener gesungen. Und doch kann man sich auch heute
kaum dem eigenen Reiz der Wiegenlieder verschließen, wenn sie mit der ins Ohr
gehenden typischen Eingangsfloskel beginnen: Ei - ja - , wi wi oder :
Slaap, Kin-ning, slaap.</font></div>
<div style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"><font size="2">Ähnlich endet dann auch ihre Ausgangszeile. Ein
ruhiger, gleichmäßiger Rhythmus - der auch in unserem technischen Zeitalter
einschläfernd auf die Kleinen wirkt - unterstützte dabei die Schaukelbewegung
der wiegenden Hände. Die Textstrophen der Lieder übeerraschen oft durch feinen
poetischen Gehalt. Manchmal erzählen sie von der Tätigkeit der

<br></span></font>I have come across a few versions of this song but unfortunately did not keep track of them.<br><br>I have reached the conclusion that the original version of this lullaby is from the Netherlands province of Groningen where the original language (after Frisian) is Groningen Low Saxon (which is a rare case of <b>ai</b> and <b>ou</b>). It belongs to the Northern Low Saxon range, most closely related to the Emsland and Eastern Friesland dialects, and seems to be the only Low Saxon dialect group in the Netherlands that preserves the old first person singular pronoun <i>du</i> (spelled <i>doe</i> and<i> -toe</i>) which comes from Old Saxon <i>thu</i>, is spelled <i>du</i> in the dialects of Germany and is the Saxon cognate of English <i>thou</i>.<br>
