<em>Dt. </em>die Bed. "wieder, noch einmal", beachte z.B. 'tausend und aber 
tausend'. Die Verwendung von 'aber' zum Ausdruck des Gegensatzes entwickelte 
sich aus der Verwendung des Wortes zum Ausdruck der Wiederholung. Bisweilen 
drückte 'aber' früher auch die Richtung auf das Verkehrte hin aus (s. Aberglaube 
und Aberwitz).</font></div>
