But, here is the next question; given the fact that Germanic Language Speakers, do not always agree on the gender of nouns, even in the same language group, who of you knows what the original genders in early Germanic languages were. I think the fact that all those “-mut” nouns have genders depending on psychological attitudes involved point at “Rhyme and reason”. I also have the feeling that nouns which mean something that the male of the species made, ( NL Huis, Gat, Blok) to name a few got the neutral article for a reason. However, this does not always hold up and a lot of “de” nouns for man made things are floating around. They maybe pertain to later technologies. Did anybody ever do a study into the history of the genders? </font></div>

<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Kijk naar onze 'groene bijbel' en je vindt er honderden die een dubbel geslacht hebben. </font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Een West-Vlaming zal nooit 'de kraam' of 'de punt' gebruiken, altijd 'het kraam' en 'het punt'. Door intens afleren op school zijn veel mensen bij ons nu wel onzekerder geworden. (Sorry, maar in het noorden krijgen wij veel te vlug de opmerking dat iets niet klopt)</font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Kwestie van 'geslacht bepalen' zitten we wel een stuk comfortabeler dan onze Noord-Nederlandse vrienden. Wij gebruiken consequent 'e' voor een vrouwelijk woord en 'ne' voor een mannelijk woord. Dat bespaart wel wat denkwerk.</font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Voor het woord 'oproer' heb ik een volgende uitleg:</font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Bij ons gebruiken ze het woord 'oproei' in plaats van oproer: De oproei (mannelijk) = de ophitsing.</font></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="MARGIN: 0in 0in 0pt"><span style="FONT-SIZE: 11pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial"><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">Misschien is dit een origineler vorm waarvan we de afleiding 'opruien' nog overhouden in het Algemeen Nederlands. </font></span></p>
