ervaring is dat in Nederland (kennelijk in tegenstelling tot België) steeds
gesproken wordt over India. “Deze man komt uit India” Ook in bijvoeglijke
naamwoorden en bijwoorden komt dit terug. Voorbeelden: “we eten in een Indiaas
restaurant” en “we eten vandaag Indiaas”. “Indisch eten” daarentegen betreft
absoluut Indonesisch en geen Indiaas voedsel. </span></font></span></p>
<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><span><font color="navy" size="2"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">Er zijn in
Nederland tegenwoordig veel Indiase restaurants, maar vooral in Den Haag vind
je veel Indische (Indonesische) restaurants. Tot in alle uithoeken van het land
voorzien overigens vooral de Chinese restaurants in de behoefte aan Indonesisch
eten. Elke Chinees heeft het op zijn menu staan. De Chinezen zijn een succes
geworden na de politionele acties/ de Indonesische onafhankelijkheidsoorlog. De
talloze jonge soldaten die terugkwamen van die oorlog hadden geproefd van de
Indische keuken en wilden meer. De Chinees sprong snel in dat gat. </span></font></span></p>
<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><span><font color="navy" size="2"><span style="font-size: 10pt;">In de
benaming Indisch is inmiddels wel een kentering gaande. In mijn omgeving zijn
twee moderne Indonesische restaurants die zich ook zo noemen. Het verdwijnen
van het koloniale gevoel en het verdwijnen van geschiedkundige kennis zal hier
debet aan zijn. Mijn taxatie is dat het tijd wordt dat we de benaming gebruiken
waar de Indonesiërs zich het beste bij voelen en graag mee willen worden aangeduid.

spoken language everyone calls it Indië, at least in Belgium. I'm not 100% sure
how widespread the use of Indië is but outside formal context like the news or
geography classes in high school I don't know anyone who actually pronounces
the name with -ia (except a few purists trying to speak "on the
