Piet Bult (on phone) mentioned the interesting Dutch word <em><b>"koddig",</b></em> which
means DE 'ulkig, drollig, komisch...', E 'amusing, laughable, droll...'.</p>
<p style="font-family: courier new,monospace;" class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p style="font-family: courier new,monospace;" class="MsoNormal">We wondered about
the origin of this word, and during my researches I came across two possible(?)
roots:</p>
<p style="font-family: courier new,monospace;" class="MsoNormal"> </p>
<p style="font-family: courier new,monospace;" class="MsoNormal">1. <em>koddeken</em> (Middel
Low German), meaning DE 'Ferkel', E 'piglet', NL 'varken'</p>
<p style="font-family: courier new,monospace;" class="MsoNormal">2. <em>kod(d)eren/köddern</em>
(Middle Low German), meaning DE 'schwatzen, töricht reden, babbeln (auch eines
Kleinkindes)', E 'to babble (of a baby, too)', NL 'babbelen' which word
probably is related with LS 'küren, kören'. In Modern German 'kodderig,
koddrig' means 'schlecht; unverschämt, frech; übel', E 'bad; nasty; sick', NL
'misselijk; onbeschaamd; onwel'.</p>

<p style="font-family: courier new,monospace;" class="MsoNormal">So, if anyone of you
should share our interest to find out more we shall appreciate all answers.</p>
