My inclination is to say <i>Schildpadd</i> (from earlier *<i>Schildpadde</i>). <br>

Afrikaans: <i>skilpad</i><br>
Dutch: <i>schildpad</i><br>
Danish: <i>skildpadde</i> (< Middle Saxon *<i>Schildpadde</i>?)<br>
Norwegian: <i>skilpadde</i> (< Danish,
Middle Saxon *<i>Schildpadde</i>?)<br>
Swedish: <i>sköldpadda</i> (< Middle Saxon *<i>Schildpadde</i>?)<br><br>Cf. Icelandic <i>skjaldbaka</i><br>

I know that in German <i>Schildpadd</i> specifically denotes the material of the shell (and in
extension tortoiseshell cats), but I believe that it is a loan from the Low Saxon
for ‘turtle’ or 'tortoise'. "Turtle” and “tortoise” are <i>Schildkröte</i> in Standard German.<br>
