</span><span style="font-size: 18pt;" lang="NL">Unieke hoeves uit midden-bronstijd opgegraven in Sint-Gillis-Waas</span></h1>
<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><br>
Bij archeologische opgravingen aan de ambachtelijke zone Kluizenmolen in
Sint-Gillis-Waas ontdekten archeologen paalsporen van drie hoevegebouwen uit de
midden-bronstijd. Dat is een primeur voor het Waasland. Over heel Vlaanderen
zijn nog maar een tiental van die gebouwen teruggevonden.<br>
<br>
<strong>1.500 v.C.</strong><b><br>
</b>"Het blijkt verrassend om drie hoevegebouwen te gaan uit de
midden-bronstijd", zegt archeoloog Bart Lauwers van de Archeologische
Dienst Waasland. De hoevegebouwen waren twintig meter lang met een rieten dak
en randen in vlechtwerk met leem bestreken". Vermoedelijk werden de hoeves
tussen 1.500 en 1.100 voor Christus bewoond door landbouwers en veetelers. "Rijk
zullen ze niet geweest zijn, want er werden nauwelijks scherven
teruggevonden."<br>
<br>
<strong>Primeur</strong><b><br>
</b>Het is de eerste keer dat in het Waasland uit die periode vondsten gedaan
worden. "In het verleden werden wel al op ruim 70 plaatsen resten van de
late bronstijd en de ijzertijd teruggevonden. Bovendien zijn over heel
Vlaanderen nog maar een tiental bewoningsresten uit de midden-bronstijd
beschreven, wat hier opgegraven wordt, heeft dus zijn wetenschappelijke
waarde". Er zijn ook sporen van zeven Gallo-Romeinse hoevegebouwen, met
bijgebouwtjes, twee waterputten en crematiegraven op de zandrug teruggevonden. Die
vondsten worden teruggebracht tot de eerste en tweede eeuw na Christus.<br>
<br>
Dinsdag 20 juli van 16 tot 19 uur zijn de opgravingen te bekijken aan de
Reepstraat in Sint-Gillis-Waas. (belga/ep)
