<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: black;">Hi All, </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: black;">as Bugs Bunny
said in a couple cartoons “coooould be, doc”. There may be some influence from
Hindu through Iranian contact, but the cult of Triglav pre-dated Christian
contact and any relationship is superficial. It could be also a case for parallel
development, after all, several cultures from Africa to the Americas had similar deities. There
is a distinction too between Triglav and Trimurti in that Trimurti is an
expression of the three supreme forms or names of Brahma or for some groups
Vishnu. Triglav on the other hand was described as ruler of the three states of
being of man that are heaven, earth, and hell - hence the three heads or three
faces of the god. Various accounts state that Triglav had three human heads, or
Goat heads, or even Horse heads. Horses were used for divination purposes by
the ancient Slavs and were housed/stabled? in temples and other holy places.
Triglav is often shown with his eyes blindfolded tightly shut or golden bands
covering his eyes or his heads/ faces veiled so he could not witness the
transgressions of mankind such was his power and probable rage. While
originally thought that Triglav was a unity of the three highest gods of the
Slavic pantheon or even their combined son, recent thought leans towards
Triglav being a deity in his own right. However Triglav was not the only multi
faced/headed deity. Take for instance Porenut who had 4 faces with a fifth one
on his chest or the protector god of Rügen called Rujievit/Ruzhavit who had
seven heads or faces and was armed to the teeth with 8 swords.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: black;">However Arkona
on Rügen was not the only site for pilgrimage, there was supposedly places in
present day Slovakia, and
the Triglav Mountain
in Slovenia.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: black;">A good source
for information would be Studia Mythologica Slavica published by ZRC
Publications.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial; color: black;">Just one more
little note. Rügen is the Germanic and or possibly Danish corruption of the
original Slavic <i>Rujan</i> or <i>Ruzhan </i>meaning red. </span></p>

mean to be so long winded,</span></p>
