knowledge of far away lands.</p>

Handelsort; von auswärtigen Kanzlisten nicht im ursprünglichen Wortsinn dem <a href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oberdeutsche_Dialekte" target="_blank" title="Oberdeutsche Dialekte">oberdeutschen</a> <a href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lautstand" target="_blank" title="Lautstand">Lautstand</a>

und hat sich im 19./20. Jahrhundert auch umgangssprachlich verbreitet.
International hat sich weiterhin auch die historische Form <i>Brunswick</i> (in Schreibung mit <a href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mittelniederdeutsche_Sprache" target="_blank" title="Mittelniederdeutsche Sprache">mittelniederdeutschen</a> <a href="http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dehnungszeichen" target="_blank" title="Dehnungszeichen">Dehnungs-c</a>) erhalten.</p>
