Subject: Corpus of Modern Scottish Writing (CMSW) Launch<br>

St Andrew's Day marks the public launch of the University of Glasgow's<br>
latest Digital Humanities project, the Corpus of Modern Scottish Writing.<br>
For the first time the resource makes freely available a wide range of<br>
documents in Scots and Scottish English from 1700-1945, ranging from a rare<br>
first edition of Robert Burns' poems to letters from the explorer David<br>
Livingstone to murder trial transcripts dating back to the 1750s.<br>

The free online resource contains texts, digital images and searchable<br>
transcriptions, and can be found at:<br>

The Corpus also features James Hogg's first ever book - a treatise on<br>
diseases of sheep; personal accounts of the 1715 uprising; letters to<br>
Scotland from the French-Indian war and from emigrants to Australia in the<br>
19th century. City Council minutes are also present along with a work on<br>
spiritualism by Arthur Conan Doyle, novels and student disciplinary trials<br>
of the 18th century and a selection of personal letters and diaries that<br>
give an invaluable insight into Scottish life in days gone by.<br>
<br>
The CMSW project has been funded by the Arts and Humanities Research<br>
Council (AHRC), and run by the University's Department of English Language,<br>
now part of the School
of Critical Studies.<br>
