<span style="color: black;">Dear language lovers</span></p>

<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;"> </span></p>

<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">I understand
that here has been a discussion on certain consonant chanches.</span></p>

<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">It was difficult
to understand why there has been a sound change from s to r.</span></p>

<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">Maybe Verner's
law can be helpful to solve this problem</span></p>

<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">Like Grimm's law
, Verner's law explanes consonant changes which took place</span></p>

<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">at an early
stage of Germanic. It boils down to this:</span></p>

<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">If the
proceeding vowel did not , at that time, carry the main stress of the word,
certain consonants changed. </span></p>

<p style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" class="MsoNormal"><span style="color: black;">This implies
that for example s  became z which later developed to r</span></p>
