De jongeman won een tekenwedstrijd uitgevaardigd door de Europese Unie, en kreeg prompt een Galileo-satelliet naar hem vernoemd. "Een hele eer", lacht Thijs. "Het voelt nu een heel klein beetje alsof ik zelf rond de aarde zweef."</font><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><br>
</font><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif">De jongen werd in het Mechelse Technopolis gehuldigd door wat hoge piefen van de Europese Commissie, federaal minister van wetenschapsbeleid Sabine Laruelle en astronaut Dirk Frimout. "Die Galileo-satellieten worden de Europese tegenhanger van het Amerikaanse gps-systeem", legt Frimout, één van de juryleden van de tekenwedstrijd, uit. In totaal zullen er de komende jaren 27 satellieten gelanceerd worden. Omdat er toevallig evenveel lidstaten zijn, kwam de EU voor de naamgeving met een origineel idee op de proppen: een tekenwedstrijd in elk Europees land.</font><font face="arial,helvetica,sans-serif"><br>
