Jacqueline,</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">I did the morning trip last
Thursday August 18, 9 to 11:30 am.</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">Boarding in Lewes DE is at a
little pier just East of the “Cape May-Lewes” Ferry terminal. One can park for
free at the parking lot for the “walk-on” passengers of the ferry.
</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">Pse verify ahead at <a title="http://www.kalmarnyckel.org/" href="http://www.kalmarnyckel.org/" target="_blank">http://www.kalmarnyckel.org/</a> whether the
ship is docked in Lewes for your choosen date. The ship actually participates at
events along the New England and Mid Atlantic coasts.</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">The crew on the ship are
volunteers, staying on board for several weeks, working for free, actually
working for getting a sailing certificat after an exam at the end of the
training period. (When leaving you will be invited for tipping to cover their
costs).</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">We were only 6 passengers, but
they sailed anyhow since it is a training exercise for the crew, and the ship is
an attraction for the tourists at the Delaware beaches. So the route is a few
miles distant from and along the coast.</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">One stays on deck all the time.
Since the sun may be burning in the summer, protective skin cream is adviced.
Some of the crew are made free from time to time to explain things to the
passengers.</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">On ship some souvenirs are sold.
I bought a book: “C.A. Weslager, A man and his ship, Peter Minuit and the Kalmar
Nyckel”, 1990, second printing 2007, xii + 225 pp. For completing: Minuit has
well been born in Wesel (Kleverland), but his family were walloon religious
fugitives from Tournai (Doornik). I paid USD 15 on board, it was priced 16 USD
in a Wilmington book shop.</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">For who is interested in sailing,
I would recommend the nautical map: “GMCO’s Pro Series Chart of Delaware Bay,
with GPS and Loran C”, USD 9.95 at the 9th St Book Shop downtown Wilmington
DE.</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">Hotel rates are quite high in the
beach area in the Summer. I stayed inland in a Comfort Inn in Georgetown at 30
minutes driving distance. Be aware that radar control is frequent in the area. I
was flashed in Milton a couple of months ago.</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">There is a little shop with
restaurant at the ferry terminal, as well as an open bar eatery (I had a
“half-and-half” (onion rings and fries) appetizer at the bar, and the basket, it
was served in, was that large and full, that I couldn’t come to order an entrée
afterwards).</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">I would recommend to combine
with:</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">- a visit to the Dutch
Zwaanendael museum downtown Lewes <a title="http://www.beach-net.com/Thingszwaanendael.html" href="http://www.beach-net.com/Thingszwaanendael.html" target="_blank">http://www.beach-net.com/Thingszwaanendael.html</a></font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">- a ferry trip to Cape May (takes
80 minutes single trip), frequency from 14 departures a day each side in the
summer to 4 in the winter. It is a combined car / walk-on-passengers service. <a title="http://www.cmlf.com/" href="http://www.cmlf.com/" target="_blank">http://www.cmlf.com/</a>
The area is full of Dutch history. The cape got its name from Cornelis Jacobsen
May/Mey, born in Schellinkhout-Hoorn.</font></span></p>
<p style="line-height:normal" class="MsoNormal" bgcolor="#ffffff"><span style="color:"><font color="#1f497d">And most certainly with, 100
