Beste Leeglanners,

Now that nights are starting to get colder, I was wondering what the
origin of the word "flannel" (as in flannel sheets) could be. The name
of a fabric often refers to the place where it was invented, but in the
case of "flannel" a solid etymological basis seems to be lacking. It
seems though that Wales played a role in the development, and since
Flemish weavers settled down in that area earlier on, it got me thinking
that the word "Flan-ders" may have been influential. I do realise it's a
far stretch though from "Flan-ders" to "flannel".

Any ideas?

Kind greetings,
