I also think that gwlan is monosyllabic, like gwlad 'country' (derived from wlat-, related to Irish flaith 'lord').<br><br>Yes, "w" is normally pronounced [u(:)], as Ron says, but the "gwl" consonant cluster is an exception.<br>
