noticed for years now that folks in the USA say, “I’ll try and do
that,” instead of what I think it should be, i.e., “I’ll try to do
that.” I hear it everywhere, and I don’t think
it’s just a Texasism. It seems limited to the verb try +[inf], so that
“and” replaces “to.” Does anyone else have a pet peeve about this? And
what’s going on linguistically to cause this?</span></p><span style="font-family:courier new,monospace">
