By the way, Tajik, used extensively in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Afghanistan (and in the form of Judeo-Tajik ["Bokhori"] also in Israel and the USA) is an Iranian Indo-European, specifically Persian, language closely related to Iranian Farsi.<br>
<br>To shed more light on Luc's reference to Yiddish, it has been postulated that the German pre-New-Years wish <i>einen guten Rutsch (ins neue Jahr)</i> ("a good slide [into the New Year]") came via Rotwelsch (a historic cant of marginalized people) from Yiddish <i><b>Rosh</b> haShone</i> (< Hebrew </span><big>ראש השנה</big><span style="LINE-HEIGHT:14px;COLOR:rgb(51,51,51)"> <i>ro'sh hashanah</i> 'head/start of the year' = (Jewish) new year).<br>
