"krant". However, Fr. "courant", originally coming from the present
participle of "courir" meaning "run", has long ago taken on the meaning of
"up-to-datedness" as in the expression "au courant" meaning "knowing what is
going on, aware of the latest", = Du. "op de hoogte." Thus: "the news,"
