That set me to wondering whether any language or culture refer to winds by where they're going not from whence they come. For example, when the wind is from the north, we call it a north wind. If it were from the south, we'd call it a south wind.<br>
<br>Does anyone or language call a wind that comes from the north a south wind, because it's going to the south? I was on a cruise ship recently (not the Carnival Triumph), and the captain made an announcement about high winds. He said they were "to the south." I don't think I've ever heard it phrased that way. By the way, the captain is British, English to be exact.<br>
