Calvin College is a 4-year Liberal Arts college owned by the Christian Reformed Church that, in turn, had its origins in the<i>Gereformeerde Kerken</i> in the Netherlands. There was a mass emigration from the Netherlands in the 1840s to the United States by Dutch Protestants to escape intolerance. Important names are A C van Raalte (whose adherents settled in Michigan) and H Scholte (whose adherents settled in Iowa).<u></u><u></u></span></p>
