'Backe', denoting 'face' or 'cheek' is from another origin. I once read in a
publication by Marlies Philippa that this can also be found in Dutch
'kinnebak', 'mombakkes' and 'bakkes'. But since it is very hard to find
cognates outside Low German and Dutch, she thinks it must be a substrate word,
i.e. a word from a language that was spoken in our regions before the
Indoeuropean (Germanic) tribes settled here.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Arial,sans-serif"> </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family:Arial,sans-serif">So the similarity that
