They spoke an earlier version , Riksmal, or Heutigesprochet (?) than heard today. A bit more Danish influenced. I think Danish is Norwegian spoken like N. German, without many tones, flat, as compared to Swedish. While in Danemark, the speech among seamem and fishermen sounded like home to me. Btw, a few years avo i started a months long discussion by a simple questio . I asked if anyo e knew or remembered an old Morwevian seaman's dish called lobskaus (?), which my grandfather made at home. Seems the whome Northsea and west Baltic knew it, each witb theif own recipe.
