Good question. The only reason I offset the word is because of its not being English; and I use the word only because everyone here, including the Maya, use it.

Regarding the word's origin, I haven't the slightest idea -nor do I have any idea of the origin of its synonym: 'choza'.

I'd be interested in an aswer too. Why not pose the question to the maillist?
