My understanding of  Malintzin is that it is the honorific form of Marina,=20
the name that Cortez gave to the slave girl.  The Nahuatl speaking people=20
could not pronounce the letter "R."   When they heard "R," they would=20
pronounce "L."  The "A" ending was dropped and the honorfic "tzin" was added=
.=20
 Thus, Marin(a)tzin becomes Malintzin.
