The Pre-Columbian Society of Washington, DC continues to accept registrations for its 2008 symposium, </FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman" FAMILY="SERIF" SIZE="2"><I>Power and Politics in the Late Aztec Period</I></FONT><FONT COLOR="#000000" FACE="Times New Roman" FAMILY="SERIF" SIZE="2">, which will be held in downtown Washington on Saturday, September 13, 2008. Archaeologists and art historians who specialize in Aztec studies will explore the period during which the Aztecs became the dominant population of Mesoamerica. Recent research, including investigations into the role played by small city-state capitals outside the Valley of Mexico, will permit new insights into the development of the Aztec state. While examining the many kinds of power wielded by the Aztecs prior to the arrival of the Spanish, this symposium will take a close look at the complexity of Aztec society.<BR>

Michael Smith of Arizona State University will be the symposium moderator. Also giving presentations will be Frances Berdan, California State University/San Bernardino; Lori Diel, Texas Christian University; John Pohl, The Fowler Museum, UCLA; Richard Townsend, The Art Institute of Chicago, and Emily Umberger, Arizona State University.<BR>
