From sb at UNAGI.CIS.UPENN.EDU Sat May 26 18:17:42 2001 From: sb at UNAGI.CIS.UPENN.EDU (Steven Bird) Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 14:17:42 EDT Subject: Welcome to OLAC-Implementers Message-ID: Folks, Welcome to the new OLAC-Implementers mailing list. Thanks to the LINGUIST List people for hosting it. The list homepage is at http://lists.linguistlist.org/archives/olac-implementers.html About a month ago, Gary and I posted a revised version of the OLAC Metadata Set to the OLAC site: http://www.language-archives.org/OLAC/olacms.html It gives formal definitions and examples for the OLAC elements, and names the various controlled vocabularies. A 12 page paper discussing the metadata elements and controlled vocabularies is also available: The OLAC Metadata Set and Controlled Vocabularies Proceedings of the ACL/EACL Workshop on Sharing Tools and Resources http://arXiv.org/abs/cs/0105030 Most recently, an XML schema, version 0.3, for the OLAC metadata set has been developed, and is available on the site. Please see the following URL for links to the schema and an example. http://www.language-archives.org/alpha/ Version 0.3 is the first schema to implement the complete OLAC metadata set. Controlled vocabularies are now provided for: DC-Type, CPU, Date, Language, OS, Relation, Role, and Sourcecode. Vocabularies still need to be defined for: Data, Encoding, Format, Functionality and Rights (for now, stubs are provided for these vocabularies, permitting arbitrary values). >From now on, the primary changes to the schema until the release of 1.0 in the fall will be to replace the stubs with complete vocabularies. Please try to upgrade your data providers to use the 0.3 format, and report any problems you encounter either to or to this list. Many thanks, Steven (& Gary) From sb at UNAGI.CIS.UPENN.EDU Sat May 26 18:17:42 2001 From: sb at UNAGI.CIS.UPENN.EDU (Steven Bird) Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 14:17:42 EDT Subject: Welcome to OLAC-Implementers Message-ID: Folks, Welcome to the new OLAC-Implementers mailing list.
