From thien at UNIMELB.EDU.AU Wed Dec 14 22:01:25 2005 From: thien at UNIMELB.EDU.AU (Nicholas Thieberger) Date: Thu, 15 Dec 2005 09:01:25 +1100 Subject: OLAC Metadata add transcript relation Message-ID: A suggested addition to the Relation refines that we have found a need for. The standard DC set of relations is: Is Version Of Has Version Is Replaced By Replaces Is Required By Requires Is Part Of Has Part Is Referenced By References Is Format Of Has Format And while a transcript could be considered under some of these refines (requires, haspart, hasversion), none of them is specific enough. We ask that OLAC extend its metadata to include the following relation pair. hasTranscript IsTranscriptOf Thanks, Nick Thieberger -- Project Manager PARADISEC Pacific And Regional Archive for Digital Sources in Endangered Cultures http://paradisec.org.au nicholas.thieberger at paradisec.org.au Department of Linguistics and Applied Linguistics University of Melbourne Vic 3010 Australia Ph 61 (0)3 8344 5185 -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... But I'm not sure of the mechanism for adding extensions. Does this email message function as a proposal, or do you have to write up something more formal (as I would guess)? If the latter, what about proposing än addition to "Discourse Type" to cover music (as Linda has suggested) and a standard format for adding map coordinates for resources? I know Linda is working on this as well. May as well kill lots of birds with one proposal.... With regard to specific extensions, its largely mechanical to add them to the required schemas, and the proposal Nick puts forward should be sufficient to do this. For the map coordinates, I personally think the way forward is to simply adopt the Dublin Core extensions to coverage which allow for an international standard representation of geographic information pertaining to a resource. I'm going to look into this in January anyway. While this is on the implememters list, I'd be very happy to hear about other things which need attention in the overall OLAC standards and services infrastructure (fortunately we have some resources available in 2006 to spend on such things). Hence, feel free to email me either via the list or directly, and I'll add your items to the relevant task lists (which will be publically available).
