FOR PAPERS</FONT><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica"> <BR><BR></DIV>COOL is one of the
special events taking place this year as part of the 50</FONT><FONT
face="Arial, Helvetica" size=1><SUP>th</FONT></SUP><FONT
face="Arial, Helvetica"> anniversary of the UC Berkeley Department of
Linguistics. COOL seeks to bring together linguists and other scholars whose
work pertains to any language or language group belonging to the Oto-Manguean
stock or non-Oto-Manguean languages spoken in Oaxaca, Mexico. Invited speakers
include George Aaron Broadwell, Terrence Kaufman, Pamela Munro, Enrique Palancar
Vizcaya, Thomas Smith-Stark, and Javier Urcid. <BR><BR>Abstracts are invited
from any subfield of linguistics and from folklore, epigraphy, ethnobiology, or
any other discipline so long as the paper relates to Oto-Manguean or Oaxacan
languages. Papers may be presented in English or Spanish, though English is
likely to dominate due to the location. Abstracts of no more than one page are
due Nov. 24</FONT><FONT face="Arial, Helvetica" size=1><SUP>th</FONT></SUP><FONT
face="Arial, Helvetica">. E-mail submissions are encouraged. With the abstract

Congreso de Lenguas Otomangues y Oaxaqueñas (COOL in inglés) se llevará a cabo
del 19 al 21 de marzo, 2004, en la Universidad de California en Berkeley. Este
congreso es un foro para lingüistas y otros especialistas cuyo trabajo se
relaciona a las lenguas o familias de lenguas pertenecientes a la macro-familia
otomangue o lenguas habladas en el estado de Oaxaca. Nuestros ponentes invitados
incluyen a George Aaron Broadwell, Terrence Kaufman, Pamela Munro, Enrique
Palancar Vizcaya, Thomas Smith-Stark, y Javier Urcid.<BR><BR></FONT>Invitamos
resúmenes de cualquier sub-disciplina de la lingüística, así como de estudios
