The Syntax and Semantics of Numerals and Number-Related Terms


Abstract:

Expressions that make reference to numbers are used both in natural language
and in the language of mathematics. In this presentation we take a closer
look at the syntactic and semantic properties of (complex) numerals and other
number-related terms in natural language, also crosslinguistically, and
address the question in what way their linguistic behavior in natural
language may  shed light on the ontological status of numbers itself.
