Workshop 'Binominal Denominative Noun Phrases' June 2, 2012

IHPST, Grande Salle
13 rue du Four, 75006 Paris

'Binominal denominative NPs' are NPs like 'the name John', 'the poet Goethe',
'the concept 'horse'', 'the truth value true' and 'the number eight'. Such have
not received much attention in the syntactic and semantic literature, even
though they present extremely interesting challenges to syntactic and semantic
theory as well as to philosophy of language. The construction involves issues
in the syntax and semantics of quotation as well as semantic strategies of
'reification'. This workshop will address empirical linguistic generalizatons
concerning the construction in different languages, syntactic and semantic
approaches to their analysis as well as philosophical issues.

A few slots are available for submitted contributions. We invite submissions of
abstracts of up to two pages including reference (optionally anonymous), for a
30-minute talk.
